Era: mid 70s-early 80s
Character: Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce
Claim to Fame: Smart Ass Surgeon and all around Womanizer
Reason to Love him: Come on, he's HAWKEYE!
Dead Giveaway He's Been in Your House: There's no more gin, there's an empty martini glass tipped over on the floor and someone is snoring on your fouton wearing a red bathrobe. If your lucky he doesn't smell like ether and managed to take off his scrubs first.
Fashion Fame: He is the ONLY man OTHER than Thomas Magnum to pull off a Hawaiian shirt. I repeat ONLY man.
Most Likely To: Crack a joke then scream at the top of his lungs about the war before being sidetracked by the sudden urge to pinch the nearest nurse in the behind.
Reason to name him my TVLAND Character of the MONTH: There is just something about him. Granted, I grew up with this show and he was my favorite even when I was a very little girl (mind you Klinger was running a very very close second. Come on man in a dress... that's a seven year old's best belly laugh right there). He is such a complex character which is such a rarity on TV, especially TV from Hollywood. It think we'll be hard pressed to ever get a guy like him on TV again. Funny, serious, sexy, scary (ever see the episode where he snaps? Makes the hair on my neck stand up, it's soooo real). They broke the mould when Alan Alda took on this role. Sure Donald Sutherland rocked it in the film. But Alan stole that Oscar worthy character from Sutherland and made it HIS! Truly Amazing. Too bad Alda didn't keep the whistle, but that's neither here nor there.
April is HAWKEYE PIERCE MONTH here at Ob-Zurd Thoughts. Take some time out and watch an episode. You won't be sorry.
